Parental consent for optometry care (SB 457) – WIN

Passed

SB 457 (Menjivar) Allows a minor 15 years or older to consent to treatment by an optometrist if they live separate from their parents or guardian and are managing their own financial affairs, similar to the law allowing physician and dental care.

COA is supporting SB 457 (Menjivar), which would authorize minors to consent to their own vision care, and would authorize an optometrist to advise a minor’s parent or guardian of the care given or needed, under the same conditions applicable to the provision of medical care and dental care. This bill has passed the Senate and will next be heard in the Assembly.
