Seeking a dedicated Optometrist to provide quality eye care to the underserved communities of rural Northern California. Join our passionate team on a mission to deliver accessible, patient-centered, full-scope optometric care with a focus on the medically vulnerable, the uninsured and underinsured.
About Us: Shasta Cascade Health Centers (SCHC) is a Federally Qualified Health Center situated amongst the natural beauty of Mt. Shasta in Northern California. For over 20 years, through our three health centers in southern Siskiyou County, we have provided quality medical, dental, behavioral health and specialty care to people of all ages, backgrounds and income levels. We take pride in treating our patients with dignity while addressing their unique needs, as well as creating a positive, warm and encouraging environment for all of our employees to thrive within. SCHC is embarking on an exciting expansion by adding optometry services at our health center in Mt. Shasta. As our Optometrist, you will help grow a brand-new Optometry Department slated to open in 2024. With strong leadership support and the latest technology, this role offers the chance to shape the future of eye care for an underserved rural community.
Why Live Here? Located at the scenic base of Mt. Shasta, the town provides easy access to an abundance of outdoor recreation alongside small-town charm. Quality of life is simply amazing with some of the finest water on earth, clean air and endless opportunities for exercise and recreation. Cost of living is moderate, commutes are short, and our tight-knit communities welcome new neighbors with open arms! Siskiyou County, California is an outdoor lover’s paradise, boasting unparalleled beauty and endless recreation opportunities, including hiking, skiing, mountain biking, fishing, golfing, rock climbing, exploring, all while surrounded by pristine lakes, rivers, forests, waterfalls and mountains. The county is roughly the size of the State of Connecticut, but only has around 40,000 residents. And while we are seriously rural, larger towns full of great restaurants, shopping and entertainment are only an hour or so away. The population of Siskiyou is one that is aging and increasingly dependent on access to quality healthcare. The median age of our residents is 47 and over 34% of our population is over 60. Our new optometrist will be walking into an amazing opportunity to build a practice within an existing community health center; the only other local optometrist is preparing to retire soon, and we expect a full patient schedule for our new provider to be possible very quickly.
